The old rabbit looked up, one of his ears had fallen to
cover his left eye, and he pushed it aside.
"Hey Bunny." The rabbit smirked at him.
Bolt frowned, and folded his arms. "It's Bolt."
The rabbit laughed, "Bolt Bunny!" He exclaimed,
chuckling loudly.
"So what?" Bolt growled at him. "What's
yours?"
The ears laid back, flicking with amusement.
"Chester." The rabbit said, jumping to the bed and holding out a paw.
"Nice to meetcha."
Bolt glared at him. "That's not your full name."
The rabbit grinned, "Nah, but it's all you're
getting."
Bolt sighed and clasped his paw, Chester pulled him close,
"Hurt the boy," Chester hissed, "And I will end you."
Bolt's eyes widened. "What?"
Chester shook his head, "You heard me."
"But it's my duty to protect him!" Bolt exclaimed.
Chester let him go, dropping off the bed and to the floor.
"Sure kid." He poked his head under the bed,
before crawling beneath.
Bolt leaned over the edge of the bed. "Chester?"
All he could see was the little tuff of tail and the rabbit's back legs.
"What are you doing?"
"Checking." Chester stated glumly. His voice
muffled.
Bolt rolled off the bed with a thump.
Ow.
"Checking what?" He asked from the floor.
"Monsters. Portals. Don't they teach you anything in
the academy?"
Bolt crawled over, ducking his head under the skirting.
There was really nothing there, a random sock, dust bunnies.
Nothing important.
"I don't see anything." Bolt said.
Chester's ears flicked up. "You wouldn't." Chester
inched forward, swiping his paw through the air. "But there were
Nightmares here last night."
Bolt growled, "I know that. They are drawn by bad
dreams. I thought they closed the portals behind them?"
"They do." Chester said. "When it's a happy
child. Nightmares are infrequent visitors to some children."
"It's been a week." Bolt said, "Only the one
set of Nightmares came calling."
"And they will come tomorrow if we don't find the
Portal and close it now.
