It continued on in much the same manner.
Freddie started to cheer up a bit, started drawing rather
than just sulking on his bed or watching cartoon.
Not that Bolt objected to cartoons, but the solumn way
Freddie watched them made him rather concerned.
The Nightmares came back.
Not straight away, but a few days later they were sniffing
around Freddie again.
This time Bolt noticed the activity from Chester. He
couldn't see what happened, and Chester wouldn't talk about it, but something
had driven them off.
Bolt didn't know if he should be thankful, or annoyed. He
hadn't seen the enemy once, they hadn't encountered him, but Freddie was safe
for another night.
"It was just the one" Chester said later, hunting
around for signs of a Portal again.
"But what do I do?"
Chester gave him a look, "What you've been doing. It's
not a small thing."
Bolt glared at the floor. "Hiding under the covers like
a coward." He muttered.
Chester shrugged, "The kid feels safer with you there,
before it was every other night."
Bolt didn't believe him, "I want to fight."
Chester ignored him, finding the Portal behind the curtains
this time, and dreftly closing it.
Was it his imagination or did the shadow around Chester seem
a little darker this time?
"Get over yourself Bunny, you're here for the
kid." The shadows seemed to cling a little tighter this time, and the
rabbit hesitated before entering the square of light from the window.
Bolt didn't touch him this time.
