Honda's Ghost Part 13

Not here.

Fury bubbled as I took in the room.

It was probably a good thing Honda was in control. He had a better handle on his temper for the moment.

The jerk who had hit Yugi was down and out. I might have been tempted to do something else to him, but Honda knew he had people to protect.

Well, I knew that too, but I was finding it a lot harder to keep that in mind.

Anzu suggested we split up to look for them.

Yugi’s going to find them.

“Okay.” Honda agreed, “But tell me first if you find him! Don’t try anything on your own!”

Can you? Honda asked, doubling back but staying out of sight.

A shiver of power. Can you feel the Puzzle? I asked.

He handed me control, and everything snapped into place. I knew where Jonouchi was, I knew where the puzzle was, I knew the Spirit was about to do something crazy.

I ran.

I wasn’t fast enough.

Screams echoed.

I stepped into the building, Hirutani and his gang on the floor and sparking. The Spirit standing on the tyre looked up.

I raised an eyebrow. “You started the party without me.”

He stepped down, and took a swipe at the water. “Help me get Jonouchi down?”

I nodded, considered taking a low blow at Hirutani. No. Not today.

“I hope you realise I am furious.” I said, in a level voice. No point in theatrics. He tilted his head questioningly.

I untied Jonouchi, working my way methodically with the knots. They were tight and wet, and there was a rust brown colour in places that would normally have worried me.

“I wanted to tear that waste of space to pieces.” I said with as much contempt as I could muster, pulling at a partially stubborn knot.

He smirked, smug in his victory.

“Jonouchi’s mine.” I hissed, and the smirk fell off his fall, his eyes going dark with the promise of harm. I felt a flicker of danger.

He reached over to pull some of the rope out the way.

“I got here first.” He said calmly. “Would you have had me wait when Jonouchi’s life was in danger?” He responded reasonably.

I grasped his arm. “No. Never.” Forced my eyes to meet his crimson gaze.

“Neither would I risk one friend for another.”

He blinked, and suddenly the red faded to magenta. Yugi really did have most unusual eyes.

I nudged him, “Warn me next time you ninny.”

Yugi looked around with confused eyes.

I glanced down at Jonouchi.

“We are going to have to have a long chat about acceptable risks.”
