Knights Against the Knight Part 47

Freddie gasped as Bolt was knocked out, not quick enough to seize the bear, not brave enough to act.

The Dragon laughed, and slipped away into the shadows.

"Bolt!" Chester yelled, racing towards the bed and sliding beneath it. Freddie leaned over the edge.

"He's gone." Freddie said to the old Rabbit.

Chester spun round to look at Freddie. "Oh no."

"Where did they go?" Freddie asked, snatching the rabbit up, and sitting cross legged on the bed.

Chester didn't answer, going quiet.

"Tell me!" Freddie demanded angrily at him.

Chester didn't react.

"They took Bunny." Freddie growled. "Mags said you were special. Mags said you would protect me. Mags said you talked to her!"

Chester flinched. He hadn't meant to. Freddie seized him, pulling him close.

"Tell me" Freddie demanded.

"You're not her." Chester said lowly.

"I want my Bunny back!" Freddie replied, staring Chester directly in the eye.

"They went into the Dark." Chester said slowly. "I can't follow them."

"I can." Freddie said, rolling off the bed and staring into the darkness underneath.

"No!" Chester objected, "They want you, Bunny's bait."

Freddie leaned back on his ankles, bouncing slightly.

"I don't leave friends behind." Freddie said.

He put the old rabbit down, and wiggled under the bed, searching for the doorway.

There was a gap.

"I can't go. The dark will consume me." Chester said, his breathing quick and panicky. "You can't. Freddie..."

"If Mags was down there..." Freddie glanced back at the rabbit, "I'm going."

He pulled at the gap, widening it enough for a small boy to fit.

Freddie slipped into the portal.

"Frederick!"

Chester darted forward, sliding under the bed and into the Dark.
