Mad at Mouse Part 24

The Heartless were restless.

Maleficent considered them carefully, as one would a particularly active anthill.

There was no focus to their activity, it was unlikely to be an enemy walking among them.

Yet there was confusion in the ranks. There was something there. The Heartless didn’t know what it was, didn’t know where it was, merely that something had changed.

Striding out into the Darkness Maleficent sought the source of the confusion.

She could have ordered a search, but she suspected this invader was hidden from most means of detection.

When she saw it she realised why the Heartless had been restless.

The hollowed cheeked girl was bone white, and while she still possessed a heart, it was still in her chest, no emotion filtered through, no thump thump to call them in, she was still as a frozen lake.

“Queen Maleficent.” The girl said, her voice steady as she dropped into a graceful bow, her eyes never leaving Maleficent’s. “I have questions. Would  you trade me answers?”

“You know my name child, what is yours?” Maleficent proclaimed, watching this prideful child and wondering what she had happened on to.

“I am known as Destiny. Was it you who silenced the forgotten Worlds?”

“You would know far more of silence than I child. How did you kill your heart?”

There was a smile. It was not a nice smile. Maleficent approved.

“My heart song screamed itself out, but like a phoenix it will rise in song once more. War is coming, will you fight?”

Maleficent’s eyes narrowed. “I shall do that which suits me most child. As you know.”

The child nodded, “Yes. I know. War is coming. The stars are going out. Soon even broken heart songs will be silenced. Fare thee well Dragon Queen.”
