Phineas didn’t seem worried, bobbing along at his normal
pace, but Ferb had known him long enough and well enough to know his brother
was bothered.
“It just doesn’t seem right.” Phineas snapped out,
slamming a bolt into place.
Ferb gave him a look, silently motioning him to continue.
“She was hurt Ferb. We should have done more.”
Ferb nodded, his mind easily following Phineas’s train of
thought. Destiny had wandered off with barely a word, and now his brother,
being the kind soul that he was, was worried about her.
“I know, I know. She didn’t want our help, not really.”
“We did try.” Ferb said seriously.
Phineas handed him the monkey wrench, and Ferb quickly
put it to use, thinking carefully.
“But she was hurt.” Phineas repeated.
But it wasn’t something they could fix. She was heart
sore and grieving, battle weary and combat alert, that sort of thing required
time and a friendly ear.
“I know. I just feel bad that we didn’t...”
A shadow flickered over them, and the boys looked over.
“Did you dye your hair?” Phineas asked, noticing that it
looked greener than this morning.
Destiny blinked, “No. My hair is odd, it changes colour
based on environment.” Her eyes flickered to Ferb and she nodded.
Ferb saluted with the monkey wrench.
“I need to tell you boys something. It’s a bit unbelievable.”
Phineas grinned, “That’s okay, we like to believe six
impossible things before breakfast.”
Destiny smiled back, warmer than the first smile she had
given them, but not by much. She sat down cross legged on the grass, and gestured
for them to do the same.
“I will start with, I am not from this World. But you
knew that already.”
Phineas nodded, “It was a bit obvious.”
“There are dangerous things out there in the paths
between the Worlds.” She continued as if there hadn’t been an interruption.
