Destiny shook her head sadly, rejecting the idea.
"No, that wouldn't work, you can't..." She paused, her whole body
going unnaturally still, the lights above her head whirling into life.
“You can’t make a heart out of nothing.” She stated.
The lights shifted, realigned, danced as if trying the
show the Universe how it should dance, the connections between them pulsing in
a rainbow of colours, before they stilled to just a gentle hum.
"I can't create a Heart out of nothing!" She
declared, as if it was the idea of the century, leaping forward in sudden
motion and dancing around the lights.
She stopped suddenly in the centre of the room, and
whistled. A short piping tune.
There was a giggle. It sounded so young, like a child's
first laugh.
"Youngling? Dearest? May I ask a favour?"
The World Heart rose up through the floor.
"May I? You did mean...?" She asked, reaching
towards the Heart.
There was that giggle again, and the smallest speck of
light detached itself from the Heart, drifting into Destiny's open hand.
"Thank you" She breathed, bringing the little
speck of heart close to her chest, before very carefully blowing on it.
As before when she had done something of power, the
colour drained out of her.
The World Heart whirled around her once, as if gazing
upon what she held in her hands, then did loop de loops around the room before
fading away to rest again.
The ghosts were silent. The fragments gone. Her heart was
empty again.
She gazed down at the tiniest heart she had ever seen. “Thank
you.”
